Happy New Year to all! January is always exciting because, despite any downer thoughts telling us it’s an arbitrary line in the calendar, we can’t help but feel hopeful for change as we make our resolutions. How about making this year pain-free for a resolution?
Of course, pain is a part of life, especially as we age, and pain helps us to understand our limitations so we don’t say, leave your hand on something hot. So, what we really mean is eliminating unnecessary pain.
At ADL, we’re all about healthy aging for our Southwest and Central Virginia clients. Here’s how we bring our healthy aging mission to pain management.
Avoiding Injury
Injury is almost always accompanied by pain. So, one of the crucial ways to make this year as pain-free as possible is with mobility solutions.
No matter your age, you should always try to be as active as your body will allow while remaining aware of your limitations. If you’re not as steady on your feet as you used to be, purchasing a walker, even if temporarily or for days when you need it, can go a long way in helping you avoid injury.
Likewise, a stairlift can help you safely traverse the most treacherous part of your home as you age.
Pain Management
Not all pain comes from injury. And though it’s typically a signal that something is wrong, not all pain is useful. Whether the result of a chronic condition or nerves misfiring, we have the pain management solutions to make this year more pain-free.
Lymphedema Pumps
One chronic pain condition that ADL can help manage is Lymphedema – the buildup of lymph in the tissues, causing painful swelling and infection.
If left untreated, Lymphedema can lead to more serious problems, so many patients use lymphedema pumps and compression wear to help manage the condition.
Lymphedema pumps recirculate lymph through compression and reduce pain. Similarly, compression wear manages lymph flow. ADL supplies our clients with both to help make their day-to-day lives more pain-free.
Other Chronic Pain
Other types of chronic pain can come from everything from arthritis to nerve damage. Some of that pain is easier to treat than others, but reducing it in safe and effective ways can lead to a better quality of life.
Neuropathy
Neuropathy occurs when nerves are damaged from diabetes or other causes. That nerve damage sometimes causes chronic pain.
One treatment for that is infrared light, which stimulates the nerves through an anodyne therapy machine.
Anodyne Therapy
The Anodyne therapy system is the first FDA-cleared light therapy system. Clients use Anodyne therapy to treat a variety of chronic conditions, including joint pain, neuropathy, stiffness, and muscle spasms.
You can also use anodyne therapy for chronic burning or tingling in the feet or other extremities and to aid in circulation.
Best of all, it’s drug-free and noninvasive!
If Not Pain-Free, Better Pain Management
